Sitting down and (sometimes) forcing words out is a good thing. The sentences, paragraphs, or dialogue don't have to be perfect the first time. That's where editing comes into play.
Sometimes I wish I could listen to my own advice.
Gray skies are high above and rain pours down as we continue to thaw out from winter. Under most circumstances, these types of days are my most productive when it comes to writing. Rainy days are a favorite to begin with so writing naturally follows suit.
This morning, I have stared at an empty page for far too long.
In an effort to combat that I decided to send out a little update.
Over the past two months, much work has progressed on The Blue Gem, the follow-up to my first fantasy novel The Dragon Princess (shameless shill: only 99 cents to download). Currently, if I continue at the current pace I've been writing, the first draft should be finished by the end of April.
A tiny glimpse into the process, including a draft started in high school.
Speaking of April, a one-act play I wrote, One Night Stand, will be receiving a performance during this month in Florida. A theater student has decided to direct the play for their senior project and when she messaged me with the info, I was more than ecstatic. It's always good to hear of the positive when the occurrence of rejection emails/letters happen so often.
Acting classes and writing groups over at the JUMP building in Boise have been the extent of any film work I've done in the new year. I did finish up an edit of my latest original screenplay. It is my hope to gain more traction in submitting screenplays and my one television pilot this year. And by traction, I mean actually sending them out. Perhaps maybe I'll look into exactly how much it would take to get any of them made.
As always, I continue to work as a contributor for Bronco Nation News and Chowder & Champions. If you're a fan of Boise State University athletics or Boston sports teams, be sure to give those a look see.
Finally, you have five chances left to see Buyer & Cellar by Jonathan Tolins over at Alley Repertory Theater in Garden City. This one-man show explores a fictional world in which a man is hired to work in the real antique shops in Barbra Streisand's basement. The show is hilarious, profound with a touch of sentiment and down right good. (And I'm not just saying that because I have to).
The show closes March 11. Tickets are available online or at the door.
